residents, and my own opinion is that the additional accommodation for which the unofficial members of the Legislative Council have, in the enclosure of my despatch under reference, expressed their willingness to vote the requisite funds, will amply meet all necessary requirements. I do not say that such an addition will convert the Gaol into an ideally perfect prison, but I have no hesitation in saying that when the addition has been made, the Gaol will not only be a creditable structure relatively to the general circumstances and condition of the Colony, but one to which in itself and judged by other standards no serious exception can be taken, and I therefore, and in the strong view of the practically unanimous feeling,
